Two years ago, Cyndy started dreaming of a way to support Illinois Fiber Farmers. She chose the date, rented the facility and said let’s do it. Add Anne to the mix, and here we are!!
Allow me a few paragraphs to reintroduce myself. My name is Cyndy Ash, the owner and sole operator of Jubilee Farms in Clinton, Illinois. My farm serves as a non-profit within the United Church of Christ and was the calling to which I was ordained. Our mission is to provide the community, both those with financial means and those without, with locally grown produce farmed sustainably without pesticides or synthetic fertilizers, and to serve as a gathering place for the wider church community for worship, mission, education, and community building.
Sheep are an integral part of our farm. We use them for weed management and to fertilize our land. Even their manure in the barn is composted and worked back into the ground. They are a primary source of income, the sale of their fiber products ideally covers the cost of grain and hay. My herd consists of Merinos, Leicester Long-wools, and crosses of the two. We also have a few Huacaya Alpacas. They’re all sheared annually, and the wool gets processed at local mills into yarn, roving, and combed top. Our products are available on our website and during live WAFA sales.
Some fun facts about me….I have my Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, a Master’s in Business Administration, a Master’s in Divinity, and a full-time job as a Vaccine Specialist. I have six kids ranging in age from 5 to 28. I enjoy red wine, especially Malbec. I love to travel, read, cook, and lift weights.
I’m excited about the future of our small farm. I value its pivotal role in sustainability and land justice. Cyndy, Jubilee Farms Check out her FB for sweet sheep and alpaca photos here!
